How to Open a Hyundai Key Fob & Replace Battery

Before you can replace your Hyundai key fob battery, you first need to know how to open the Hyundai key fob itself. The process may vary slightly depending on the model year of your Hyundai.

How to Open a Hyundai Key Fob: Step-by-Step

  • If you drive a relatively new Hyundai, start by removing the metal key by pressing and holding the metal tab or button. Next, use the metal key to open up the back cover on your Hyundai key fob by inserting it into the tiny opening and turning it in either direction. The case should then pop open.
  • If you drive an older Hyundai model, you’ll see a small notch along the side of the key fob. Use a coin or a flat blade screwdriver to carefully pry open the key fob at the notch.

How to Replace a Hyundai Key Fob Battery: Step-by-Step

  1. Once you have your key fob open, gently lift the circuit board to expose the battery. Take note of how the battery is positioned in the key fob before removing the battery, so you’ll know how to place the new battery.
  2. See what kind of battery your key fob has and buy a Hyundai key fob battery replacement. Most Hyundai key fobs use a CR2032 battery. These are cheap batteries that are easy to find just about anywhere around Miami or on the internet.
  3. Once you have your new Hyundai key fob replacement battery in hand, place it into your key fob in the exact same position as the old one. Make sure that the battery is making contact with all of the connections.
  4. If you removed a metal key, be sure to replace it when your Hyundai key fob is snapped back together.

After you’ve successfully replaced the Hyundai key fob battery, you’ll need to reprogram it. Don’t worry if you don’t know how to program a Hyundai key fob, as it’s an easy process! Learn how to properly program a Hyundai key fob below.

How to Program a Hyundai Key Fob

Now that you’ve replaced your Hyundai key fob battery, follow these steps to program your key fob:

  1. Get inside of your Hyundai, and close all the doors.
  2. Using your key, turn your Hyundai to the “ACC” (accessory) position on your ignition.
  3. Hold the “open” or “unlock” button on the key fob until your car lights flashes.

Congratulations! Your Hyundai key fob should now be programmed, and you should be good to go. Still, be sure to test your key fob to ensure that it’s working correctly. If it’s not, re-open the case and double-check that the battery is in the correct position and the connections are touching and in good condition. Then, try to reprogram your Hyundai key fob. If the key fob still doesn’t work, you might need a Hyundai key fob replacement.

Also, please note that the above Hyundai key fob programming method will only work on key fobs that have been previously programmed for your Hyundai. If you have a brand-new key fob, you will need to visit the Kendall Hyundai service center to have it programmed to your car.
